This post sparked a lot of discussion and some of the more thoughtful responses pointed out that social media is often used get engagement without entering a dialog and that mastodon does not foster that.
I wonder if there is any data analysis of this, e.g. calculating a gini score of follower counts of a bluesky sample vs. a mastodon.social sample?

There is still a real problem for finding a funding mechanism for services like quality news that isn't ad or data harvesting based.

I could be completely off base.

I agree.
My interest was in potential assymmetries of reaching others, not in assuming that "engagement" or some kinds of it are good – thus the suggestion to look at follower counts.
