This is Camber Castle, in East Sussex. It stands mid-way between the Cinque Ports of Rye and Winchelsea, and was completed in 1543. It was once on a promontary by the sea and guarded the entrances to the two harbours. It was intended to offer protection from French invasion. However, in the event, it wasn't the French who invaded but the sand and silt. The harbours are long gone and the castle now sits some considerable way from the sea.#Photography #History #Castle
