GENESISRock Roots1976 UK reissueEssentially, the first Genesis album From Genesis To Revelation.And since it’s the only album the band doesn’t own the rights to, it’s been reissued a billion times, with reconfigured track listings, different covers, and bonus tracks. They were just kids when they recorded this; students at Chatterhouse in 1967. The album bombed horribly, and so when all of their obligations were fulfilled, they did not want their contract renewed, and they went back to being students. This is a very different Genesis than what was to come; leaning towards the typical psych-pop of the time. It’s not terrible by any means, but knowing what came after with Collins (who’s absent here) drumming, and all of the art-prog stepping out into the light, it comes off as average. For GENESIS.
