After minimal abnormal dryness at the beginning of August, drought has developed rapidly in Ohio. With harvest season quickly approaching, producers are concerned that this flash drought could impact their yields. The dryness is also increasing fire risk.

US Drought Monitor 9-18-25 For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the US Drought Monitor shows 34.21% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 30.11% last week.Drought worsened in parts of the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast. Within these regions, there were pockets of improvement in Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Florida.
Parts of the High Plains plus Oklahoma and Texas had mixed conditions this week. There were isolated areas of improvement in the West, with a couple spots of degradation in Montana.
Hawaii saw an area of degradation, while Puerto Rico saw a small area of improvement.
