My goodness, it is a busy day. It is being reported that Charlie #Kirk has been shot at one of his racist fascist rallies. At first they had a suspect, but Scott Trotter, a university spokesman, told the NYT that “a person who was taken into custody after the shooting was not actually the shooter” despite saying earlier that there was a suspect in custody. There is no suspect in custody. He also told the NYT that Kirk was struck by a suspect who had fired from a building about 200 yards away.
Let’s talk about that for a second. 200 yards is the “zero spot” for sharpshooting competitions. For most shooters, 200 yards is challenging. A clean shot, through a crowd, one bullet, one hit? That’s a well trained shooter. Most sharpshooters can hit at 200, 400 and with the right scope up to 1200, but 200 is out of range for most gun owners. Hunters rarely shoot over 100, because ethics and clean kill.
