Today's #TuneTuesday is #MyGoldenOldie "What's the oldest song you know and like?"
Not at all what I had in mind to start with, but I came upon a link to "Clair de lune," which is, of course, beautiful. Plus, it's much older than what I was first thinking of. Reading about and listening to this piece has taken me on a lovely little journey this Tuesday morning, quite unexpectedly.
"'Suite bergamasque' ... is a piano suite by Claude Debussy. He began composing it around 1890, at the age of 28, but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. The popularity of the third movement, 'Clair de lune,' has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most famous musical pieces of all time."
"Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau (1903-91) was widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.... His playing was characterized by its lyricism, emotional intensity, unhurried tempos, and ... his attention to detail. His interpretations of Clair de Lune ... are considered some of the finest ever recorded."
