Even notepad in Windows has Copilot -
I will say this@alex02 - I don't believe we're fucked. Honestly. I believe there are multiple ways out of this. That said, I do believe getting through those multiple ways will not be easy or pretty.
Societies change, and morph, and I don't believe the authoritarianism will last. But I also don't think they'll leave easily either.
But we're not fucked.
Find hope. Build out the next good thing.

I will say this@infoseclogger - I appreciate the suggestion.

I will say this@kkarhan - Some will get out. But most won't.
Most don't have the means or life situation to allow for it.
And its not like a lot of places can take "refugees". Canada will only accept so many.
In short, getting out isn't a viable option.
Most of us are riding this out.

I will say thisI will say this.
I believe this is a watershed moment.
There have been recent class-based assassinations with the CEO of a health insurance company and others.
And, there have been recent political assassinations of state representatives and attempts on the current US president during the election.
But this is the first "big name" political assassination.
I fully expect tit-for-tat responses. I'm worried about a couple that I won't name out loud. There has been a LOT of stochastic terrorism. Fricken powder keg.
Some have called our current situation (prior to this) a "cold civil war" what with the US President deploying armed military to various cities and giving shows of force. Whether that term fits or not, I do believe we're in the midst of a civil war.
This is an escalation.
I expect it will continue.
Join community. Build up mutual-aid. Find folks to protect and those who can protect you.
Modern civil war is distinctly different from the 1800s and we're really not sure how it'll play out. But institutions are and already have crumbled - not everywhere and not uniformly.
But here we are.

Oh... we're not discussing this in an open public forum@bosh - I long for the mundane.

Oh... we're not discussing this in an open public forumOh... we're not discussing this in an open public forum.
As a former Marine, a war veteran,, a degree'd historian and political scientist, and a student of individual/group/nation/multination dynamics.... uhh, I have thoughts.
But I'm going to limit those thoughts to personal discussions with friends and colleagues to whom I already have foundations of discourse laid out and agreed upon.
Anyhow. Shits chewy and will continue to get chewier.
"May you live in interesting times" indeed.

I wish I could draw.@rootsandcalluses - This is a wonderful idea. You might find a local artist and commission a piece from them!

Even notepad in Windows has Copilot@davidbcohen - "note: I have no control" - No, I'm unable to install other windows apps or make major configuration changes to system. I don't have administrative privs at all and things such as the Windows Store are blocked. I was able to find a pre-installed classic version of notepad with some effort. So yay.

Even notepad in Windows has Copilot@davidbcohen @briankrebs - Hey David. Not sure if you read the bottom part of my short post. You might go back and check it out. It would address your "If only..." thought process.

I just... I just want a text editor to keep quick scratch notes on without having to worry about anything being sniffed up or...
Eris...
I hate using Windows....
(note: I have no control or choice in the matter of OS at this specific project. It hurts. But I get paid. So yay.)

Huntress admits to being able to see everything you do on your computer if you install their software on your computer during a free trial.Huntress admits to being able to see everything you do on your computer if you install their software on your computer during a free trial.
Note: We know that EDR (read modern day "antivirus" software) can "see" everything on your computer. That's how it works. It has to scan everything, files, your internet activity - to protect you... right. What many don't realize is that that action is not limited to your local computer. EDR/antivirus companies send all that data back to their company. In effect, anyone at that company can peer into your computer and see what you're doing and what websites you visit.
Here Huntress does just that and unilaterally determines that this user of their software is a Bad Guy
️. And after that determination decides to release everything they can see on that "bad guy's" computer and the web search and browsing activity that the "bad guy" does.
I'm sure the user clicked "accept" on the Terms of Service that allowed Huntress to install what amounts to spyware on their computer and allowed Huntress to record and send all of that "telemetry" back to the company for "analysis".

Just got back from a local Food Hunger Action Coalition meeting just now with a lot of the food groups throughout town.Just got back from a local Food Hunger Action Coalition meeting just now with a lot of the food groups throughout town. We aren't waiting around. Trump and Republicans just cut SNAP and WIC and School Lunch programs MASSIVELY. This at the same time that homeless and food insecurity have risen in part because of Blackrock and Blackstone and others buying up Rentral Properties and increasing rates, grocery stores cost more, and folks losing their jobs or not getting pay rates to match inflation.
So fuck it. We're building out our own systems. Each group is tackling different aspects of food security and we meet to discuss best practices, find efficiencies, and find ways to coordinate with each other - making each of our jobs easier.
