@drq @julian I'd be really appreciative if this new discussion space didn't quickly degenerate into expletives and negative comments about open source projects and the people working on them. Nothing and no-one is perfect, but the creators of ActivityPub platforms are generally open to criticism and useful feedback in regular channels, but all of us in this ecosystem could use a little more positivity, even if specific platforms, features or functions don't meet our immediate needs.

Wikipedia is not at risk of being shutdown, the danger is malevolent editors bringing the culture war inside of it and destroying “truth”. While it would be great to keep wikipedia as it is, “they” are coming for it, wikipedia doesn’t get to be excluded from the war. For now the best we can hope for is that it will survive but the best we can do is save local wikipedia copies in case the worse happens. Which isn’t shutdown, but corruption.

Twissell hmm, chat notifications have always been delayed by a minute or so. Maybe less. It is done so that subsequent messages sent within the same rough time frame can be batched together. This is less of an issue with notifications on site, but can be an issue when you are emailed for every single chat message.

Generally speaking, a person making fan art and not selling it is going to be protected under fair use. This is not generally true. The fan art also usually needs to be sufficiently transformative, and could still be violating, for example, if a character is widely licensed. Fair use is really complicated. Usually it’s better to see if the copyright holder has any public policies on community creations, like WOTC’s fan content policy.

Sure, but what play is being performed here? These men are more than powerful enough to go against Trump, yet every single one of them is playing the part of the obedient subject to the mighty king. The message of this bizarre play is that Trump is in charge, that he demands, in return of leaving you and your business alone, acts of what can only be described as public debasement. That’s unsettling for a long list of reasons.

I should note: content labels don’t replace as:sensitive from ActivityPub Miscellany, but rather they compliment each other. Software may decide to automatically mark certain content labels as as:sensitive or hide them from display or place them behind content warnings, but what we envision is something more like how labels work on bluesky.
