This weekend several men asked if I sell leather belts. It is not unusual for a vendor to have a stall where they make leather belts to order, cutting them and customizing them for each customer. If you notice, they may sell a few other small goods like watch straps or belt buckles but basically they sell belts. That's not me. I won't be customizing your $40 leather belt whilst someone else runs off with one of my $300 leather backpacks. I apologize for this inconvenience. #LeatherCraft #Maker
@DevlinLeathercraft I didn't realize shoplifting was such a problem there.

@mlanger And it is always our fault: "if you would have secured your merchandise better I would not have been able to steal it."
I also have a tendency to be a little cynical in this respect and expect people to steal as I spent my 20s in Loss Prevention. Each place I worked I had the highest apprehension record. -

I think I might have lost a pair of earrings at a show in Sequim in July. I'm pretty sure I saw the culprit right after she took them. But other than that, I haven't lost anything β and every single thing I sell is pretty easy to lift. I've actually considered putting a camera in my booth, more to get an area of how people browse than to catch/deter shoplifters.

@DevlinLeathercraft Would you do it if you had someone else sitting with you watching your booth to make sure none shoplifted? Or would you simply prefer not to spend your time making / customizing belts?

@consumablejoy I have made custom belts for people and don't mind doing it. I actually enjoy it but I don't want to carry all that raw leather, the necessary tools and set up a proper work bench in my booth. The bench would have to be sturdy enough to pound rivets on and stable enough to sit on grass or soil without shifting. I would also have to traipse across uneven ground from my vehicle to my booth with said heavy work bench. There's a lot people don't consider when they suggest this.

@consumablejoy Not only would I have to buy a suitable bench because I have nothing like this presently but I would also have to buy a truck because I would not be able to fit everything I need into my Volvo, which otherwise suits my needs for the canopy and stock I currently transport.

@consumablejoy The cost of a new used truck is a lot of $40 belts.

@DevlinLeathercraft Totally agree. Youβd have to need the used truck for many other things (and the work bench) to make that worth while.

@consumablejoy Maybe one of these idiots who work in an office and don't own a home yet drive around in a honking big truck like John Wayne would trade it for my Volvo?

@DevlinLeathercraft I am secretly coveting one of these for Colorado living https://www.gmc.com/electric/sierra-ev
But (1) I donβt need one and (2) I canβt afford one. (2) is really the more important point because I do have plenty of gear and stuff to haul around if I had one of these trucks.

@DevlinLeathercraft This review is interesting and I especially like the line about being tempted to make bad decisions with the personβs budget lol

@consumablejoy I'd never buy a new vehicle because something that depreciates $10K as soon as I drive it off the lot doesn't appeal and I don't like my vehicle spying on me and selling my data. I've been known to turn off my phone for the same reason. Funny review, though.

@DevlinLeathercraft @consumablejoy Here's a newsflash: that whole thing about a car depreciating $10,000 the minute you drive it off the lot really doesn't apply if you keep the car for 10+ years.
I'm driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, a 2003 Honda S 2000, and a 2012 Ford F350 super duty diesel pick up. I bought the first two brand new and would've bought the third one brand new if I could've afforded it. They are all paid for and they run fine.

@DevlinLeathercraft @consumablejoy About that Honda? It's worth nearly as much as I paid for it in 2003. 70,000 miles, one owner, always garaged.
