What happened today fit entirely within Kirk's vision for America. To him the 2nd amendment was for the citizenry to defend itself from tyrants. Many viewed Kirk to be a member of a tyrannical regime. Most likely someone used their 2nd amendment right for the purposes Kirk envisioned for it. If you believe that's indefensible, then the 2nd amendment is indefensible. Which it is.

He should have been readily endorsing his death by gun.
It was something he deeply believed in.Anything else would just make him a hypocrite and unmask the idiocy of his position.
