On this Sunday night, I would like to once again thanks the wonder of Bandcamp for allowing me to legally download all the music I just purchased, give most of the sale to the artists, and allow me to add tips for the hard working human artists.

Give your money to artists, not platforms.
And frak all the tech stealing from them. -

@Canning1452 Yeah, that's the downside to Bandcamp; it's a great place to go if you want some types of music, especially from indie musicians and tiny labels, and basically useless for a lot of other music, including anything most people around you know of.
Still, have you considered trying other mainstream-music streaming services? Even political issues aside, Spotify is really pretty much the bottom of the barrel in terms of what the actual artists get out of the deal.

@mkj @erin @Em0nM4stodon Hi Michael

Yes I saw this but these calculations seem not reliable and I believe that there aren't big differences with other mainstream streaming services anyway.

@Canning1452 Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer are all supposed to be good. I'm very happy with Qobuz myself for mainstream music (they also let you purchase non-DRM'd downloads if you want), and from what I could find when I looked around, their per-stream payouts are like 10-20 x those of Spotify when Spotify even does pay. Not sure if you count that as a big enough difference to be a "big difference". Of course even more would be even better, but among the existing options...

Of the services I know, Amazon Music Unlimited leads (1 cent per stream), followed by
YouTube Music (1cent),
Tidal (0,9c),
Apple (0,7c),
Deezer (0,6c),
Amazon Prime Music(0,4c),
Spotify (0,3c),
Pandora (0,2c)
and YouTube (0,15c).=> In conclusion, surprising winners, Deezer mediocre, Spotify is trash.

However sources contradict themselves a lot :

This one says Deezer is the very worst. Tidal and Apple are again cited as above average. Amazon Music is mid. -

However, this source seems more reliable : https://www.musicradar.com/music-industry/streaming-sharing/which-streaming-service-pays-artists-the-most-per-stream-benn-jordan-has-crunched-the-numbers-and-the-answer-will-surprise-you
TL;DR: IN ALL THREE SOURCES, PANDORA APPEAR AS ONE OF THE WORST OFFENDERS AND TIDAL AS ONE OF THE BEST.
OF THE MAINSTREAM MUSIC STREAMING SERVICES, AMAZON MUSIC SEEMS TO BE THE THE ABSOLUTE WINNER.
MORE NICHE SERVICES SUCH AS PELOTON AND QOBUZ SEEM AHEAD OF THE PACK.
