That is so true especially since I setup my own instance so in the beginning no one saw my post
Even now I notice the difference to when I two years ago where on an instance with some people in it
But I do prefer selfhosting and who knows maybe some day a person stumbles upon this and wants to be "at a lovely space" (yes I picked the domain just for this ) -

How challenging is it to host Mastodon? I keep telling myself I'll try self hosting an instance just to learn about the platform more, since I'd like to contribute to foss more

@starry Running Mastodon yourself isn't very hard IMO. The installation instructions are good; they just need very careful reading as you go along. Upgrades are very smooth. After the initial setup and configuration my experience is that the administration features need very little attention.
