GTA V was released on this day, 12 years ago

I liked GTA V, but after finishing it I drove around for a few hours and the never touched it again. I’m not really sure why.
I still go back to Vice City and San Andreas, somehow these worlds are just more fun. But like I said, I’m not sure why…
The graphics in 5 are great, the sound is great, but something is missing…
Because once you finished the story there’s really not much sidemission for you to play, and the world suddenly feel very empty without the excellent characters. I quit the same way.

As greedy as GTA V was with its multiplayer, Rockstar has a history of releasing a good single player base game before they start with that, and looking as GTA VI leaked map, I don’t see that changing now. It’ll definitely be nothing more than a single player experience for me though.
Plus, were might have to wait one or two years to play it on PC, especially on Linux, so there’s a lot of time for considerations…
I guess I don’t understand. I got V and paid literally nothing past that.
The experience was great. No one has to buy shark cards or whatever the hell they are.

The problem with V for me was that they released content for GTA Online for years and completely ignored singleplayer. So many heists, weapons, vehicles, outfits, and game mechanics that would have been awesome to try solo, but were only available with a damn internet connection and in a world with other players. Thankfully mods fixed some of that. But it’s not the same because you mostly have to spawn things in with a cheat menu.

Meanwhile Skyrim came out the week my daughter was born, and she’s in high school now. We still don’t have a new elder scrolls

But what about TESO?
-
Really aren’t. GTA has had the most dated mission structure since part 3.
Their Gangs and crimes stories are also weak.
SA was the only one that had something to say.
I am speaking by number of copies sold. Actually valuing the games, what do you think is the most solid GTA?

But what about TESO?
Don’t you put that evil on me!

Why is this type of comment so popular on Lemmy? We are supposed to hate absolutely anything here for some reason.
Don’t get it either, maybe it also something to do with lemmys demographic being older. ( I believe that is the case with Mastodon vs. Twitter )
Sure it is sad that the planed single-player content was scraped for multiplayer ( even though i had lots of fun with the multiplayer as well, at least in its early days. ) But why crying about VI when it hasnt been released yet? Just see when it comes out… -
Coming up on 14 years for Skyrim.
They’ve both been propped up by pay-to-win bullshit online games that have diluted the formula. I remember when GTA V was new (ish) and while the controls took some getting used to, and some of the minigames were bullshit (Rockstar games have wonky controls), the game was fun as hell. Zero interest in the online stuff. It never appealed to me. I did try Elder Scrolls Online, and also Fallout 76. This online shit makes them money, it’s a surprise they’re even bothering with a GTA VI. The next GTA Online is really what they should be focused on (though I’ll always root for the single player games). After the last couple Fallouts and Starfield, I don’t even have any hope for Elder Scrolls VI. GTA VI at least looks like it might actually be good. But screw paying $100 for it.
I’m out of the loop with GTA VI, but the last I knew of it the only thing they’d released was a cinematic, non-gameplay trailer. Have they released gameplay now?

If you’re just talking about number of copies sold, using the term “best” is confusing

6 is never going to live up to the hype and will be riddled with micro transactions and GaaS shoved up its ass.
Stop paying attention to what the big corporations are pumping out. Go play something made my people that give a shit about the game and not the “potential revenue” it might create.
The multiplayer will be like that.
But I’m not here for that, and Rockstar and Naughty Dog are in the “haven’t let me down yet” club.

I’m still salty that Rockstar seemingly broke GTA V for Linux on purpose. I poured hours into Online and loved the Community I found, so it’s a real shame they shut out Linux and Steam Deck users for good by adding BattleEye without Linux support. I was pretty much done with the game by then, but that move solidified my personal boycott of Rockstar.

Man I remember this photo. Bought V for 360, beat it and haven’t touched it since. After Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned I waited for a story expansion that never came.

I refuse to entertain the idea of PS3 being retro until at least next year, when it turns 20. Now you might say “okay then, GTA V also came out on Xbox 360, which turns 20 in about 2 months” to which I say… get off my lawn!
Last GTA I played was vice city, I think that was on the PS1.

You’re right. I edited my original comment

I don’t know if they released any gameplay, but IIRC some leaked (from an early build).

Yeah, that is crazy to me. I understand them wanting to make other games in between and that making those games takes a few years each. Rationally, I’m on board with the decision-making and the math that leads to this.
But that the result is a generation who didn’t have an Elder Scrolls part released in their childhood, that still feels like far too grand of a concept. What are you talking about, there’s a new Elder Scrolls release every year. Skyrim Remastered, Skyrim Deluxe. Skyrim Limited Edition. Skyrim for Switch. Skyrim Premium Deluxe for Switch, the list goes on.

Starting a comment with “#” makes it large, apparently
We don’t need to know about the state of your weinor, buddy.

Online ist dead. 5 mins in and I’m getting headshots from a guy across the map with a K:D of 3000:1. Everything online costs real money or endless grind. Waiting for 15 mins in a lobby, only that the host logs out 2 mins into the mission.

You mean you didn’t buy it four more times for various platforms over the years? Wow, that’s impressive
Do you do that with all games?
