Looks like a little stealth planting of a loquat in a row of plane trees.
I have mixed feelings about guerilla tree plantings as I've seen folks who do not know how to select the right plant for the right location make destructive choices, but loquat is certainly something that can grow here. And it's better to have *some* kind of tree in there when there are many empty tree wells in the city.

@meganL I'm fascinated by the thought of planting trees like this, but worried about doing it for exactly that reason: Getting it wrong could cause more harm than benefit. For now I've stuck to planting small native trees in wholly unmanaged areas instead of more useful spaces for that reason.
How do you feel about 'assisted migration', or planting non-native species that are very close regionally and possible better adapted to a local climate that's changing rapidly?
