After the nice presentations of @haubles and @andypiper, I've asked them, "How can a grassroots movement like the Fediverse compete with social networks like BlueSky that have the resources to travel to Brussels every other week?"

I also mentioned the @leavex campaign, which makes it easier for us to contact politicians and ask them to leave X and possibly join us. And how some politicians are already asking to remove their names from the group of politicians still on X.
I'm glad I could meet @_elena again and discuss these issues.

If you need something in Brussels, feel free to let me know. We have a public affairs team working there and for good grassroot movements, we can do some stuff there pro bono (we do for youth and LGBTQ causes, etc.).

@everton137 @haubles @andypiper @leavex @_elena Is international travel A Good Thing? Is "competive market" the right model for FOSS or cooperation and the removal of "waste" effort? Commercial software creates several products that are almost the same, made deliberately incompatible, by monopolists. The (lack of) funding model of FOSS was never sustainable in the long term. What are the objectives for FOSS? It has beaten licensed SW. SAAS was the capitalists' response. They built a wall.

@andypiper I would also like to thank you for your work on creating a human-centered social web that serves the common good.
This makes more people believe that it's a good way to go!

A good way to compete would be to actually care for user privacy by delivering encryption for user data and private messaging. Currently you are building a network that offers even less security than 90´s email servers (you can not even use gpg b/c message size limit).
If Fediverse wants to compete, it *must* provide maximum user privacy.

@everton137 Currently I'm on delegation, but I'll be back in Brussels. Regardless of this, feel free to contact me.
