My iPhone knows when I'm walking, when I'm biking, when I've shook it.... But there's one event that it doesn't detect.

I want to be able to trigger an action when I set my phone down. That's got to be straightforward. It might have to pause for a second or two, but it's got to be straightforward.

And in fact, if it knows I have an Apple Watch, it can trigger it when it realizes I'm walking away from the phone.

The action that I want to associate with that event is also straightforward.

Either a customized beep, even if the phone is silenced. Or speaking a phrase. Which for me would probably be something like, "Please remember where the fuck you just put me!"

@nazgul You know you can make your iPhone emit a pinging noise from your watch, yes?

@nazgul Just in case others might benefit from this too... I love that if you tap and hold that button, it will also activate the iPhone's flashlight. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/watch/apdd15b14f82/26/watchos/26

@mykl Interesting! That's good to know. Also, I'd been using voice to find it, but holding the button is faster.

@mykl If I made my phone beep every time I lost it. I would be getting divorced. 🙂
I try to save that as a last resort.

@mykl Mind you, if my phone said something every time I left it somewhere, I would also probably be getting divorced. So how about it vibrates my watch instead?

@nazgul That WOULD be kinda cool. There's the "separation alerts" feature... not sure if the distance has to be greater than where you might go in your home though. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/iphone/iph5f53aeae0/ios
