Hello Mastodon users, I'm working on migrating to a new instance since Med-Mastodon is shutting down.

@leonardof Unfortunately, the previous admin hasn't transferred ownership so the new host is winding down.
@bich too bad, I hoped it would work!

What error messages are you getting?
If it's the one about "something not quite right" you might want to try waiting 24 hours after you've started the process to see if you're still getting the same error message.
According to one of the developers it can sometimes take up to 24 hours for the alias on the new server to start working and waiting a day seemed to work for some people.

@bich @FediTips So I waited 24 hrs, and I think I found the problem on my end. I entered the new account I was migrating to, and then instead of entering the password to the new account next, I entered the password from the old med-mastodon account (which is counter-intuitive as I was entering the password of the new acct). If I had read it more carefully it says enter password of the current account. I figured it out after I first entered my new acct password and it had an error message.

Hello Mastodon users, I'm working on migrating to a new instance since Med-Mastodon is shutting down.
When I go to Account > Account Settings > Move to a Different Account, I enter my new Mastodon handle (with an "@" in front of it) and old account password, I'm getting error messages in the new handle and the password fields.
I've tried resetting my password. I've tried a few times. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. I need to go to bed, but hope to receive ideas.
@bich Hiya fellow expatriate from med-mastodon. I tried my hand at migrating to the FediMedi GoToSocial that @wild1145 and co. set up. I has been a bit of a bumpy road but it seems that I have managed to get things settled down.
First thing though, I got the account in FediMedi open. Set up what they call an "alias" with the handle @ med-mastodon format. Then in the med-mastodon I set up the migrate. Hahaha same thing, I entered the new handle and that handle's pwd, of course it kept giving me red until I read more carefully and entered the med-mastodon's handle password. Follows and Followers seem to have transferred correctly (although I did have to manually upload the CSV file with the accounts I follow).
Have not managed to get the bookmarks uploaded. I'm going to need help from @wild1145
Next up is the fact that the GoToSocial does not have a web interface of its own. I tried one of the suggestions in the FediMedi page and all I got was a terrible headache. @wild1145 mentioned in a post in med-mastodon that they have Elk in the other instances they manage. Tried the interface and I like it very much. Reset hashtags and lists.
Downloaded the profile from med-mastodon, will try my luck at uploading it, but probably until the weekend.
Oh, on a showy turn of events...we get 2000 char in this instance...wow -

Thank you for your help. To move to a different account, I have tried:
- put @ in front of new handle
- not putting @ in front of new handle
- using password of new account
- using password of old account
- resetting password of old account
- waiting 24 hrs
- turning off 2FA on both accountsMoving to different account seems to move followers. Importing who I follow is more important and that worked. I've updated old profile with new handle.

️ Thank you, maybe I'll set up a backup account at GoToSocial! -

Sorry to hear this hasn't worked, I'm wondering if there's a glitch on one of the servers involved in the process?
The alias thing is just for moving followers, yes. Everything else can be done by importing the CSV files from the other account.
The reason they're separate processes is to prevent spammers etc cloning followers without the consent of the followers.

@bich Checking in to see how you're going. I got my bestie to move an alt over here to test today and all seemed to go smoothly.
A few things ..
Did you setup the med-mastodon account as an alias on your apobangpo account first? See: https://apobangpo.space/settings/aliases
And we found we didn't need the @ at the front of the username when setting the redirect at the old server end.
I'm sorry it hasn't been an easy process!
