Now you might only be able to get a couple rotations until the ice has had at least one night at twenty below. That’ll set it up real nice. After that you should be able to properly whip a shitty worth telling your kids about some day.

Is it even worth trying before that point in the season? You betcha!

Awesome, thanks for the additional context.

spin in a few circles while sliding through the intersection

Okay, that’s a maneuver deserving this moniker. It probably looks as hilarious as the name itself. To say nothing of being a passenger in a car that’s doing it.

You get bonus points if you do it while going around a corner.

Whipping a shitty sounds like something that might spray liquid on onlookers 😂

I’m Canadian and come from “doing donuts” territory, but we will use “whipping shitties” if it’s done in a massive parking lot.

Being from one of the green areas, I’ve definitely heard it before, but rarely as the primary way of saying it. When I hear it, it’s usually added for comedic effect along the lines of “I was doing donuts yesterday. Ya know, just whipping shitties.”

Mostly northern Minnesota. Here’s an example of the sorts of conversations you’ll have (starting at about the 16 minute mark).

When I was a teenager, “whipping shitties” was what we called spinning donuts in the parking lots with a car.

Although you’re correct, it could be attributed to the same shenanigans on a frozen lake.

I remember one intersection near my high school that always got extremely icy every winter… Some buddies of mine with drivers licenses loved to “whip a shitty” through that intersection. Basically, crank their wheel hard as they’re driving through the intersection and spin in a few circles while sliding through the intersection. I dunno how we never crashed a car doing that.

So you’re saying that it had another name when you did it without a car?

I assume this term is more popular in regions that do not experience snow so their material is muddy fields and the chunks that are kicked up are turd shaped. I expected it to be a higher percentage.

Wait, I would swear parts of utah do get cold enough to do it… oh wait, lol. Lakes!

I would have thought the same for oklahoma and kentucky as well.
