Sailing the high seas

Wait, do Australians greet each other by saying “Aye, Matey!”?
Idk, I just know mate is common in Australia but idk at least according to internet memes

I have been out of the game for so long that I couldn’t find the first ~10 seasons of the simpsons anywhere, with many of my old caches now defunct. So I ponied up the cash.
Fun fact (US), Amex has a $8 cash back offer right now (up to 12x) for Disney subs, and if you go to cancel your sub disney will offer you $10/mo instead of $17/mo for D+ for 3 months, so I’m getting my simpsons fix for $2 a month. Will cancel when the new year hits since it’ll jump back up.
Though at the speed I’m going, I’ll only be in season 6 or 7 by that time. Ah well.

Getting a good deal while supporting the suppression of free speech… huh… weird flex but okay.

You’re welcome to suggest other locations to get my entertainment, instead of spinning it like you’re taking the high-ground. I’ll be waiting~

Wow. You just made me realize that I started using Plex 11 years ago.
What is Plex?
-
A software to organize and stream your own media file. Basically do-it-yourself Netflix.

I just use a discord bot to grab the link of the movie i want to watch. So I don’t need to download anything.

That’s certainly one way to pirate. However that still leaves you at the whims of whoever is hosting that content. The content might be removed or the entire service could shut down at any time and you’d had to scramble for a new source (which isn’t THAT bad, I did that for many years … but the move to self-hosting really felt like “growing up”).
Now downloading is really one of the most important aspects of my setup these days as it ensures that nothing is ever removed from my service (unless I do so myself). Plex also provides a pretty interface and features like playlists, keeping track of progress and watch history, intro/credit skipping, automatic audio/subtitle selection and other “premium” streaming service features that most random pirate sites won’t have.

Jokes on you I never had a subscription and hated Disney since the beginning.

I have to admit, the struggle might be parents. Kids probably don’t like being wrapped into parental decisions that “because of politics, we can’t watch Paw Patrol anymore”.

Never subbed since I saw streaming as a ripoff from the beginning. What’s happened to wake everyone else up?

In the beginning streaming was the best media access we have ever had. Golden era Netflix was amazing in my opinion. What made you feel it was a rip off?

That’s a really tone deaf pitch
How would you explain your complicity to future generations? “Yeah, I know freedom of speech was under attack and I was complicit in that, but only because it was a really good deal. I saved $15 a month!”

I keep trying to get my girlfriend to cancel these subscriptions but her entire family is completely computer illiterate and refuses to learn T-T

Time to sail the high seas. Paw Patrol, Bluey, Spongebob, what have you. They are all floating out there.

When kids watch the same 4 shows on repeat, they go on emby/Plex/jellyfin.
No need for a sub to watch the same thing over and over. Kind of like buying DVDs still lol
