Community rules (click to expand) :::spoiler 1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
- No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
- Don’t come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
:::spoiler 4. No recent reposts
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don’t understand or can’t verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community – even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don’t remove France.

3. Don't harass peopleDon’t follow people you disagree with into multiple threads or into PMs to insult, disparage, or otherwise attack them. And certainly don’t doxx any non-public figures.
4. Stay on topicThis community is about cars, their externalities in society, car-dependency, and solutions to these.
5. No repostsDo not repost content that has already been posted in this community.

If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.
For more detailed help, see the OwlPages Rescue page.
Community Rules:
Posts must be about owls. Especially appreciated are photographs (not AI) and scientific content, but artwork, articles, news stories, personal experiences and more are welcome too.
Be kind. If a post or comment bothers you, or strikes you as offensive in any way, please report it and moderators will take appropriate action.
AI is discouraged. If you feel strongly that the community would benefit from a post that involves AI you may submit it, but it might be removed if the moderators feel that it is low-effort or irrelevant.

Tips, tricks and information about the Tor network!
This is a fictional community meant to enhance my creative skills as well as other people creative skills and to waste more time on Lemmy. Why? You might ask… Well, I had never seen any one apply this idea before and we are entering a age where a lot of stories is going to be AI-Generated. Why a king? Will, I need to be super motivated to engage, so hopefully this community stay alive. What is the content like here? This is probably going to be something like just me posting and shitposting+ roleplay/fiction stories and lore. Why should you join? You shouldn’t. This community might not be something that benefits you or even advance your creativity. You can treat that like unfinished unprofessional art work that is almost never going to be finished. I might delete this community later, I might not delete it who knows? But I really don’t want to surrender to AI and lose my creativity, so hopefully some people might enjoy role-playing as my minions and the friction create fire(Which is stories and lore). I want to stay weird, I don’t want to become another gear in the machine of life. Who knows maybe I click with someone in this community and we get something real. I don’t like bullshit and I don’t like to invite greatness that I am not worth, I just want to have a place that is super comfy to me. The world is getting ruined, people are getting more conservative, social media is being ruined and climate change is going full speed and we are in a loneliness epidemic. Most people are evil and rude and we are in the hopeless age. Fiction can fix all of that and more. In case that after you read all of this and you became interested for a reason or another, you can subscribe.
This is a community where pro kingdom citizens can come to embrace their only king.

Trump Goes on Wild Rant as Irish PM Struggles Not to Laugh
Trump reignited one of his favorite grievances, and the Irish prime minister could barely stifle his laughter at the absurdity.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin could barely keep a straight face as President Donald Trump launched a rant about one of his signature complaints: windmills.

Employers don't just Google job candidates. Many monitor current employees online too. Same username across platforms makes that search trivially easy.

Boah, @GrueneBundestag echt jetzt?
Ich unterstütze euren Energiewendeappell gerne. Teile ihn auch gerne. Würde auch gerne eure Funktion zum Teilen nutzen.
Aber es gibt nur die Auswahl, die im Screenshot zu sehen ist. Echt jetzt? Euer ernst? Was soll das? Nur Algorithmus getriebene BigTech Netzwerke, die an Datensammelwut nicht zu übertreffen sind.
Wo ist das #Fediverse? Wo ist #Threema? Wo ist #Signal?

I was just checking our PeerTube. I searched for "John Brown's Body", and did find a video of the Pete Seeger rendition.
PeerTube is the equivalent to YouTube on the Fediverse.
Some years ago I decided to move away from proprietary social media options due to concerns about their increasing tracking and monetarisation of their platforms. So, I set up accounts in Diaspora, Friendica, Lemmy, and Mastodon.
Diaspora was okay, but not much was happening there. I quite liked Friendica, but then the instance I was on suddenly pulled the plug. I liked Lemmy, but, unlike Reddit, there was no way to post videos.
I like taking news videos and getting relevant unedited segments from them (interviews with left leaning politicians in Canada often aren't highlighted and, thus, can't be found elsewhere). So I thought PeerTube would be the answer. However, most of the instance servers baulked at the idea of posting an unedited clip from the news, feeling it's a grave copyright infringement. News is shocking, whereas if I made asinine videos (like, of me eating marbles or something), that would be okay.
However, I did find one instance that would allow it, stating I could claim "fair use". But, usually after posting I'd have to wait a week for the moderators to approve it. And that instance lately is warning users that money constraints may have lead to its shutdown.
It's too bad. I'd like to find a YouTube alternative.

Another tagpush.app service
ATIran@tagpush.app
[change AT to @]
This new service seeks out posts with an #Iran hashtag from all over the #Fediverse and then boosts them to many servers. This helps distribute the posts much more widely, including to smaller servers.
To have your posts picked up by this service, simply use the #Iran hashtag in your post.
To receive the feed of boosted posts, follow the user ID shown at the top of this post. BTW, this #tagpush service also boosts #Gaza, #Palestine, #Cuba, and #Venezuela #hashtags, and you can follow them also, using the same process.
To find other tagpush hashtags and to learn more about tagpush - https://verbamea.com/4dd1a1ca55
Please boost this post so that it gets around widely.
Many thanks to tagpush.app for providing this valuable service.

Hello Mastodon users, I'm working on migrating to a new instance since Med-Mastodon is shutting down.
When I go to Account > Account Settings > Move to a Different Account, I enter my new Mastodon handle (with an "@" in front of it) and old account password, I'm getting error messages in the new handle and the password fields.
I've tried resetting my password. I've tried a few times. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. I need to go to bed, but hope to receive ideas.

means, it's the logo of the Fediverse!
There is no central authority to decide an official logo, but
is by far the most commonly used logo and most widely accepted.
The designer of the logo uploaded high quality versions of it to Wikimedia Commons:
️ https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fediverse_logo_proposal.svg (colour)
️ https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fediverse_logo_proposal_(mono_version).svg (monochrome)
Fediverse projects often use this as the basis for their own logos by tweaking it a bit.
Great to see that an important #museum has joined the #fediverse.
@smk
The mastodon account has already been added to #wikidata
The SMK is - according to Wikidata - one of currently 58 museums with a mastodon address: https://w.wiki/JKy7

We are #Ikiya and we are finally on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse !
We are a small #Japanese shop located in Treviso, near Venice, and we focus on bringing to Italy a selection of Japanese teas (such as #matcha), ingredients for your recipes, kimono and haori, handmade pottery and much more.
We would like to start leaving mainstream social media for good to connect with our customers in a different way, and this is our first step towards a better communication.
Happy to be here!

If there is someone from Valve in fediverse, I would be happy to chat about helping in securing RAM for Steam Machine and other stuff. https://frvr.com/blog/valve-publicly-asks-for-help-securing-ram-for-its-linux-based-steam-machine/
If you've recently joined the fediverse, and are maybe on a smaller server, things might feel a bit isolated.
Fediverse does require a little more effort compared to traditional social media. This is where the community has really stepped in and created some great tools, like these bots that share trending posts from servers across the fediverse.
This starter pack contains accounts from various bots that boost posts that are trending across the fediverse. I'd suggest putting them on a list that you can use as a feed.
