Hello Mastodon users, I'm working on migrating to a new instance since Med-Mastodon is shutting down.

@bich Not really clear for me too. Not being an expert . But did you export all data from your old instance first ? Starting with a complete new instance , not connected in any way with the old, and importing the data should do it ?
@hanktank61 I did that first. That's why a bunch of people I follow received notifications I was following from my new handle.
Importing who I follow and my lists are more important to me. It seems like migrating to new account would transport followers.

@wild1145 @gunchleoc @CuriousMagpie @huskify @bich If I remember correctly, you should enter your new account without the ‘@‘ in front of it?
There are no limits on med-mastodon from .world
@mwadmin @wild1145 @gunchleoc @CuriousMagpie @huskify
I tried that, but still got the same error messages.
-
@masek Hmm...no, not it.
@bich Sorry, no other idea...
-
@gunchleoc @CuriousMagpie @huskify @bich @mwadmin I've just checked on the med-mastodon end. Can see we federate with apobangpo.space and there aren't any blocks there, can see a number of accounts from the instance and other stats. The same for mastodon.world both seem to be federating without issue.
I've seen a few folks already migrate off med-mastodon without issue and I can't see anything obvious on our end that would prevent someone moving at the moment...
@wild1145 @gunchleoc @CuriousMagpie @huskify @mwadmin @Pixelcats
I followed https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server/ and https://apobangpo.website/how-to-join/move-to-apobangpo-space/, but have not been able to "Move to a different account" through my old account.
Since that seems to transfer followers, I'm fine with not being able to do that. I was able to export who I'm following and my lists and that was most important to me.
-
@pixelcats I tried and got an error message in both fields.
@bich Hrrrm .. tis curious. Check you're not adding a space at the end. And if you're running 2FA on either account, try turning it off temporarily.

@bich Again, not sure about it. I changed instance 2 years ago, making sure all data was exported. ( There is a list to chose from which data you want or don´t want to exportt)
And that went fine...
Made another back-up instance "just in case" too. That one is nice and empty

@bich Yes, that part is always manual. It's only the transfer of followers and the redirect on the old profile page that will be created by the migration process.
Also, transferring the followers takes time in order not to crash the servers, so once the process has started, don't worry if your followers aren't there immediately.
-
@bich if you haven’t found a resolution when you read this let me know.
@chris Thank you! I'm asking both instance admins for help.

@pixelcats Thank you, will try this later.

Hello Mastodon users, I'm working on migrating to a new instance since Med-Mastodon is shutting down.
When I go to Account > Account Settings > Move to a Different Account, I enter my new Mastodon handle (with an "@" in front of it) and old account password, I'm getting error messages in the new handle and the password fields.
I've tried resetting my password. I've tried a few times. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. I need to go to bed, but hope to receive ideas.

@bich I thought someone else had picked up maintenance of med-mastodon.com. Did they decide not to continue doing so?

@mwadmin @wild1145 @gunchleoc @CuriousMagpie @bich I tried both with and without @

@bich Unfortunately I been having the same problem. I used the feditips article mentioned step by step. I also tried resetting my password.
#MedMastodonWhat error messages are you getting?
If it's the one about "something not quite right" you might want to try waiting 24 hours after you've started the process to see if you're still getting the same error message.
According to one of the developers it can sometimes take up to 24 hours for the alias on the new server to start working and waiting a day seemed to work for some people.

@leonardof Unfortunately, the previous admin hasn't transferred ownership so the new host is winding down.

@bich too bad, I hoped it would work!

@bich @FediTips So I waited 24 hrs, and I think I found the problem on my end. I entered the new account I was migrating to, and then instead of entering the password to the new account next, I entered the password from the old med-mastodon account (which is counter-intuitive as I was entering the password of the new acct). If I had read it more carefully it says enter password of the current account. I figured it out after I first entered my new acct password and it had an error message.
