@shellsharks @rysiek A lot of journalists and influencers assume that most people are like them. They project their own competencies, or lack of them to the wider public.
This is similar to a review who reviews a new computer and the first thing they do is encode 4k video.
They assume that everyone wants to do that.

Also they are often missing the point that open source projects are evolving around a community. The community dictates the direction a project will evolve and not some kind of corporate agenda.

In any case the majority of journalists have decided to ignore mastodon and fediverse in general and quite a few of them did what they could to manipulate their audience away from fediverse.

@rysiek Mastodon having a bit of a learning curve is one of the best things about it IMO.  

Much like the Internet before AOL and the masses having easy access, and we all saw how that went.

I honestly thought AI wrote it and hallucinated the whole time. Something trained on rage bait from middle schoolers. Wasn't a coherent argument in it anywhere.

Even if mastodon had face planted, this article wouldn't be relevant to anyone but the guy who wrote it...and maybe Shatner because it's got him in it.

I had 3 different mobile Twitter apps in the Before Times, not counting the (very bad and totally overrated) official app.

@rysiek I love Mastodon, but the term "toot" is still ridiculous and reminds me of farting. I had wished "verse" (as in Metaverse) was the choice for posting something, and if someone reposts it, it would be a re-verse. Which would have been a clever word trick

Unfashionable take, but I really liked G+ (in the early days, before the mandatory YouTube disaster).
I got in as part of the first wave of general public users, courtesy of an invite from a friend who worked for Google.

Woz was on it, and I found a lot of interesting music there (that wasn't being pushed anywhere else).

It (unsurprisingly) went to shit after they added the mandatory requirement to have a G+ account to add comments on YouTube videos.
